The Burnet High School volleyball team earned two more District 24-4A victories against rivals Marble Falls and Lampasas.

The Lady Dawgs defeated the Lady Mustangs 25-12, 22-25, 25-17, 25-22 Oct. 18 and Lampasas 15-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-20 Oct. 14.

“With trying a new rotation, things were a little shaky, but they battled through it and got it done,” head coach Crystal Shipley said. “They have secured a playoff spot but need to finish strong to stay at the top.”

Against Marble Falls, two Lady Dawgs earned some individual milestones. Senior Addie Grace Hernandez recorded her 800th career dig, while junior MaeSyn Gay had her 700th career kill.

“This is an incredible accomplishment, and we are so proud of them,” Shipley said.

The Lady Dawgs took their usual approach in facing the Lady Badgers.

“The varsity girls started the night a little out of system, but after the first set, they calmed down and took care of business,” the coach noted.

The Burnet subvarsities also continued their winning ways, capturing both matches against Marble Falls and Lampasas in straight sets.

“They have two more district games left and are both sitting in a great spot to win district,” Shipleysaid. “They played great and continue to grow confidence.”

The Lady Dawgs hit the road to face Georgetown Gateway Friday, Oct. 21, in a key match. Burnet beat Gateway in five games in the first round. The Lady Gators (19-7, 7-1) are looking to return the favor. A Gateway win means at least a share of the district title.

The varsity plays at 5 p.m. followed by the junior varsity and freshmen at 6:30 p.m.

“This game will be a big factor in the varsity standings,” Shipley said. “We are so proud of all three teams for their commitment as the season gets long and tough.”
